The distributed integrated concept of the GE Intelligent Platforms process controller and safety controller (SIL-2) is perfectly suitable for retrofits or new build FPSO’ and FSO’s. The distributed concept in combination with the environmental specification removes the need of a central control room. The controllers and I/O can be installed directly in the field.

Values read by the SafetyNet input channels can also be used as input to control loops. Safety signals can be transferred between SafetyNet controllers using a “non-interfering” peer-2-peer communication protocol. For example safety signals from the turret can be displayed on a centralized annunciation panel, meeting SIL-2.
